Invision Power Service lässt Kunden, die das IP. Board mit der Perpetual und Lifetime-Lizenz erworben haben, fallen. Diese Lizenzen enthält das Recht lebenslang Updates und Upgrades für das Produkt IP. Board zu bekommen. Das Recht lebenslang Updates und Upgrades zu erhalten, wird ab der Version 4.0 gekippt, mit der Ausrede, dass IP. Board 4.0 komplett neu geschrieben wurde und die Grundfunktionen (z. B. Benutzerverwaltung) in ein separates Produkt names IP. Core verlagert wurde. Damit verletzt Invision Power Services den Lizenzvertrag.

Am 6.1.2015 verschickt Invision Power Services folgende E-Mail:

"You are receiving this communication because our records indicate that you
hold a legacy license for Invision Power Board.

Since the initial offering of lifetime and perpetual licenses in 2003, the
IPS product line has grown dramatically. Market changes have necessitated
several changes over the years and the result has been going from a simple
forum to a powerful and complete community solution.

We recognize and appreciate the role you’ve played as an early IPS
supporter and we would like to invite you to the next chapter of IPS which
ends development of Invision Board and introduces IPS4 and beyond, an
unparalleled community solution developed from the ground up. While your
legacy license is not directly compatible with IPS4, we will convert your
license to our new Suite license at no cost to you. Additionally, as a
limited time offer, we will provide an account credit in the amount of
$100 USD.

We have been extending this offer to customers unofficially and while most
customers have been excited about IPS4 and the offer to upgrade, there have
been several questions, which are addressed below:

*Can anyone receive the $100 credit? *
To receive the credit, your name must be on the account as the purchaser
of the license. If you’ve recently purchased the license from a third
party, you are not eligible for an account credit but may still be able to
upgrade the license.

*What happens to my applications and add-ons such as copyright removal? *

Your legacy license was only applicable to Invision Board and thus, only
that purchase is impacted. All applications and add ons such as Gallery,
Blog, copyright removal, etc. would remain fully intact under the terms of
their respective purchases.

*Is there an expiration or other restrictions on the account credit? *
The credit is non-transferrable and carries no value outside of use toward
IPS services. There is, however, no expiration and you may use it how and
when you’d like.

*What happens after I’ve used my credit? *
You would simply renew at the standard rate, which is currently $25 every
six months for the forum component.

*Are there any other benefits? *
Yes! You would be moved to the license structure that has been in use
since 2006. This allows active licenses full access to hosted and value
added services such as spam mitigation.

*What are my alternate options? *
We understand not everyone wants to change and upgrade. In such cases, you
may opt to remain on the legacy license and continue using IP. Board 3.4,
which will continue to receive security and critical updates for at least 2
years.

While in most cases, you will be able to upgrade the license for free at a
later date, the account credit offer is being extended only until March 31,
2015. If you have multiple legacy licenses, all must be converted at the
same time.

If you wish to take advantage of this offer, simply e-mail
legacyinvisionpower.com from the e-mail address on file and we will be
happy to further assist you. If you wish to retain your legacy license and
continue using IP. Board 3.4, you do not need to reply or take any further
action.
