DHL offers no realistic compensation for a lost insured parcel
Bestell-/Kundennummer: 1-4373027941
On the 30th of august I send an insured parcel (versichetes Versand) from the DHL Postoffice in Kranenburg (NRW) to Muchen. The parcel contained a watch worth 450 euro. The parcel was insured to 500 euro. Unfortunately my parcel never reached the address in Munchen, probably is has been stolen, (seems to happen often).
I contacted the customer service of DHL in Hamburg. They said that they would start a survey but in the end they had to admit that the parcel was not retractable anymore. After that they wanted a lot of evidence. I provided them with all the evidence possible (purchase receipt, photograph and description of the watch). Thereafter they wanted also know the estimated actual value of this watch. I provided them with plenty information of the actual value inclusive a written statement of an expert and trade of this kind of watches. For DHL it should be easy to get an idea of the actual value of this watch. The value was between 250,00 and 350,00 Euro but far more than 50,00 Euro!
In the end the answer of the DHL customer service was very disappointing, after more than 3 months, the only thing that they wanted to do, is to reimburse 50,00 euro! for the loss of my watch. Their answer was without any explanation. I see it as my duty to warn everyone not to send a (insured) parcel by DHL). It is most likely that you will get only a very small part of the actual value when your parcel gets lost. Be aware that as a client of DHL you are completely with our any rights. I can tell you that my experience with the GLS parcel service was far better.
